The ADVANCE Charity
About the ADVANCE Charity
The ADVANCE Charity was founded in 2018 to support the work of the ADVANCE Study. Its mission is to raise and manage essential funds and provide guidance to the ADVANCE Study Project Board on the future direction of the research. The charity is led by a dedicated team of experts who are passionate about improving outcomes for veterans and trauma survivors.
Our Key Charitable Goals
- Educating the public, patients, and healthcare specialists about the medical and psychological outcomes for British service personnel who have experienced severe trauma in combat.
- Sharing knowledge and skills across different medical fields, to enhance research, diagnosis, and treatment of combat-related injuries and severe trauma.
- Supporting the best care for injured servicemen and women, both now and for future generations, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care and support.
Pathways to Impact
It’s now more than ten years since the ADVANCE Study welcomed its very first participant. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of researchers, clinicians, funders and, crucially, the 1,145 military personnel taking part, we have the potential to change the way we care for all those injured in combat.
The next ten years of this landmark, longitudinal study promises even more in terms of the impact it delivers and the relevance it has to rehabilitation outcomes for patients, both inside and outside of the Armed Forces.
Through learning from and sharing ADVANCE’s key findings we will be able to make a tangible difference to the treatment of combat injuries and the life chances of those who risk so much on our behalf.
Currently, we have the funds in place to continue the Study until 2029. Our priority, though, is to raise a further £5 million in gifts and pledges by mid-2027, so that we can provide research teams with the assurance they need to continue working through to 2032.
